Cambridge, Mass.-based consultancy Forrester has released its most recent Wave report identifying and evaluating the top 14 providers in the RPA space.

The report compiles scores for RPA technology providers based on 25 criteria including bot design and development, process discovery, governance, architecture, scaling experience, product vision, support models, partner ecosystem and more. The scores result in offering, strategy and market presence ratings. From these ratings they are separated into Leaders, Strong Performers, Contenders and Challengers.

Six of the companies were tabbed as Leaders: UiPath, Automation Anywhere, Kryon, Microsoft, NICE and WorkFusion. Nearly all the others were identified as Strong Performers. The report noted the emergence of Microsoft, which recently made its low-code offering available for free to Windows users, as a Leader despite being a relatively new entrant in the space.

The report’s authors note that a provider’s ability to help its users scale their automation programs is key.

“Particularly in times of broken manual processes that require digitization and automation to run smoothly while everyone is working from home, RPA software must be scalable and therefore suitable and appealing to business users to get damaged processes back into operations rapidly,” the report said. “Vendors are responding to these needs with integrated task and process mining capabilities, advanced ROI and portfolio analyses, AI-infused content analytics and processing, RPA-platform wide features addressing business users, and flexible pricing models.”

Other companies evaluated in the report include: Blue Prism, Cyclone Robotics, Datamatics, EdgeVerve, Hyland, Kofax, Pegasystems and SAP.
